Humanities

Humanities Department

The humanities department includes the educational disciplines that focus on human culture, specifically the study of history, government, economics, physical health, art, and world languages. The humanities have practical application for everyday life by offering students the opportunity to test ideas or actions and to imagine their consequences. Furthermore, the humanities provide a context for envisioning the impact of new ideas in our culture, politics, and daily lives. Studying the humanities helps students answer the big questions such as, "What is the meaning, value, and purpose of human life? What is justice, equality, and/or freedom? What are the moral consequences to human action? How do people successfully work together?" The humanities belong to everyone as they inspire our creative thinking, preserve and share our stories, and help us to make sense of the world we live in.
